چکیده

By means of immunochemical techniques, the protein components of the water-soluble fraction (WSF) of the egg yolk have been examined in the unincubated egg and during incubation. Anti-ovalbumin and anti-total adult chicken serum antisera have been employed. Ovalbumin can be detected in the unincubated WSF as well as during incubation; its concentration seems to increase during incubation. In the WSF of the unincubated egg, six proteins immunologically related to adult serum proteins can be detected. They correspond to a-livetin, o^-globulin, /?-livetin, ovotransferrin (conalbumin) and y-livetin (two components). /?-Livetin disappears after the 14th day of incubation while the other components can be demonstrated till hatching. The findings are discussed in relation to the data available in the literature.

Ultracentrifugal and electrophoretic analysis of the water-soluble fraction of chick embryo yolk.

Water-soluble proteins, mainly livetins (a-, /?-, y-), are present in hen egg yolk (Martin, Vandegaer & Cook, 1957). They represent 5% of fresh yolk solids (Saito, Martin & Cook, 1965). During the later stages of incubation the watersoluble proteins (water-soluble fraction, WSF) undergo a marked increase in relative proportion; after 15 days of incubation they form over 15% and at 18 days over ...

Immunochemical analysis of chick phosvitin.

Phosvitin is a yolk phosphoglycoprotein bound to lipoproteins within the yolk granules. Its absorption and utilization during chick embryogenesis is still unclear. The presence of phosvitin was investigated by immunodiffusion techniques in the watersoluble fraction (WSF) of the yolk during oocyte maturation and chick development and in the embryonic fluids. The immunochemical analysis showed th...

Ontogeny of the vitellogenic response to oestradiol and of the soluble nuclear oestrogen receptor in embryonic-chick liver.

A specific high-affinity oestradiol-binding protein was characterized in salt extracts of liver nuclei of the developing chick embryo. It is present in very small amounts at day 10 of development and is marginally stimulated by oestradiol injection into the yolk sac on day 8. Injection of oestradiol on day 10 evokes a substantial increase in the nuclear oestradiol-binding activity measured on d...

Metabolism of ovomucoid by the developing chick embryo.

A glycoprotein resembling ovomucoid was purified from chorioallantoic membranes of 12.5 day chick embryos by a sequential procedure involving zinc chloride precipitation, hydroxylapatite chromatography, and ion exchange chromatography on DEAEand CM-cellulose. The resulting preparation was homogeneous as indicated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis at 3 pH values, isoelectric focusing, ultrac...

Regulation of extraembryonic calcium mobilization by the developing chick embryo ROCKY

During development, the chick embryo mobilizes the calcium it needs from two extraembryonic sources, first the yolk and then the eggshell. Since previous studies have strongly suggested that vitamins D and K may regulate chick embryonic calcium metabolism, we have examined here how these vitamins might be involved in regulating the calcium mobilization processes. We used as our experimental sys...
